savasana
is the most important pose in your practice
lie on your back
allow your feet to fall open to the sides
rest your hands by your hips palms up to receive
close your eyes and breathe
savasana is more a misleading secret than a restful end to class
it is the hardest pose to hold
in stillness your mind will rebel
your muscles will try to hold on to the tension
and unwanted thoughts will tumble in chaos
savasana means corpse pose
you will lie face up on your mat like the dead
a physical specimen of eternal rest
as you try to empty your brain
and feel as if you are failing
but here is the challenge
shift your perspective
think of this pose as the symbolic death of your practice
you have moved rhythmically through postures
connecting your body and mind
through a yogic union of the breath
in savasana you allow all of that energy that you created
and that rich, oxygenated blood
to circulate unhindered through your being
and that is where the restoration begins
the difficulty is in allowing this healing release to occur
we try to fight it mind, body, and soul
by holding onto the thoughts that consume us
the tension and anxiety that we cling to
like a rock that weighs us down at the bottom of a lake
it is savasana that allows us to let it go
and gently drift back up
through a symbolic yet genuine demise
release the madness
to make room for what is healing you to surface
kindness
connection
radiance
and know you are enough
hold on to all that is good
and allow all of the negativity to pass away
it is the perfect time for it to die
then gently roll onto your side
as you are reborn from savasana
sit up and sigh
roll up your mat and walk back out into your life
with renewed balance and a smile
sometimes it is the hardest pose that heals
